Vocabulary Skills

Diction and Rhetoric have become lost arts in our instant-gratification-soundbyte world. Few people today realize the depth and beauty of language. This page is designed to help develop vocabulary tools through analysis of roots (etymology) and association of words with synonyms and contextual phraseology. The truth is that words make up an infinitely expanding web of woven patterns.

Ok, so I'm getting carried away. Anyway, download and try out some of these SAT worksheets! You may find a good dictionary with etymology such as Merriam Webster or American Heritage to be helpful and/or you might try searching for roots or words on www.dictionary.com or www.etymonline.com.

In addition, we encourage all 1on1 novitiates to hunt and gather at least five new words a day in the back of a small "FAT BOOK." Jot down the word, (part of speech), a concise definition and "an easy example of how the word is used in the phrase." Click on the link below to get a new word for today and it's definition. You can come back daily for a new one.
